This film depicting the 1957 Monaco Grand Prix, the first ever victory by a British car in a World Championship Grand Prix, is a must-see historical document.
The race was marked by a dramatic first lap crash, caused by a late braking by Stirling Moss. The chaos involved almost all the best drivers and cars of the time, but Juan Manuel Fangio (Maserati) managed to avoid the impact and win, ahead of Tony Brooks in the Vanwall and Masten Gregory in the Maserati.
The British Grand Prix at Aintree, held just two weeks later, was another memorable race for the Vanwall team. Moss and Brooks qualified on the front row, sandwiched with Jean Behra (Maserati). The race was a duel between Moss and Fangio, with the British driver eventually winning by just three seconds.
