Since the death of the “racing count” Wolfgang Berghe von Trips, there has been a book about him every now and then – but none as large-format and opulently illustrated as this one. Trips connoisseurs Jörg-Thomas Födisch and Rainer Roßbach have compiled a tribute to the racing driver, who is still regarded as a model gentleman and sportsman, under the title with the motorsport idol’s nickname, “Taffy”. 192 pages strong, the picture journey through Trips’s life includes some contemporary texts as well as a topically written retrospective of the short and fast career, which was characterised by the enormous versatility of the man from Horrem near Cologne. Trips competed in hill climbs races as well as sports car races in all cubic capacity classes and finally achieved world fame in Formula 1 – in which, however, he also lost his life in a tragic accident in the legendary “Sharknose” Ferrari on 10 September 1961 at Monza.
