Product description

The book chronicles, with beautiful images, the races, memories and life at 300 km/h of Antonio Zadra, a top driver in motor racing, certainly among the fastest drivers in Italy and Europe between the mid-1960s and the 1970s. Antonio Zadra was born in Rovereto in 1935 and, after having practiced cycling and skiing as a young man, began to approach motor racing. At first, he started with karts and then gradually moved on to more powerful cars. In order not to let his parents know about his great but dangerous passion, young Antonio invents and assumes the pseudonym “Kandaru”. He races first for the Scuderia Trentina and then for the Scuderia Brescia Corse. He ran over 160 races, 120 of which on the track and around 40 uphill. In 1970, he won and dominated the much-loved Trento – Bondone, on an Osella with an Abarth 2000 engine. This was a victory that made him very famous. During his long career he met some of the best drivers of those years: from Niki Lauda to Ludovico Scarfiotti, from Arturo Merzario to Ronnie Peterson, from Carlo Facetti to Peter Schetty, from Andrea De Adamich to Rudy Lint, from Johannes Ortner to Guy Richard Edwards, from Helmuth Marko to Vittorio Brambilla, from Mario Casoni to many others. He has raced on famous and difficult circuits such as Monza, Hockenheim, Le Castellet, Imola, Nürburgring, Silverstone, Mugello, Zeltweg and many others. He took part in the legendary Targa Florio four times, first on an Alfa Romeo and then on a Lola powered by a Cosworth engine, with which he came 4th overall in 1972, but 1st in the 2000cc category. On the track he races in the European Championship and in 1972 he is sixth overall. He takes part in ten Grand Prix in the World Prototype Championship, winning twice the 1000 km of Monza in 1969 and 1971. In 1972, he was second overall in the Austrian 2000 cc Prototype Championship.
