The biography of Giorgio Francia, an almost unique character in the world of motorsport. After the first approaches with karts in the mid-1960s, Francia sits behind the wheel of a single-seater, specifically the Dagrada of Formula 850. With this car he competes for a few seasons then moves on to driving Formula Italia, winning the championship in 1972. The following two years see him busy with Formula 3 and also here he wins a championship and specifically the Polifac Trophy of 1974, a kind of European championship category. He then passes on the seat of an Osella Formula 2 but it is with the sports cars of the Turin manufacturer that Giorgio takes the greatest satisfaction by winning the 2-liter World Championship for two years. Thanks to these results, he is approached by Autodelta, the historic racing department of Alfa Romeo, and he become an official test driver. It is 1977 and from that day all the racing cars produced for almost thirty years by the Milanese company will be decided by Giorgio Francia. His contribution remains memorable in the development of the 155 GTA and subsequently of the version designed for the DTM with which Alfa Romeo dominates the championship in 1993, thanks also to his performance on the track.
