Product description
The story of the Valenzano brothers is a perfect cross-section of the enthusiasm, liveliness and even risk that characterized post-war Italian motor racing. That of Gino and his younger brother Piero is a story of passion for motors and defiance of destiny. A passion that allowed them, young students, to survive imprisonment in the Mauthausen camp by pretending to be specialized workers and a destiny that continued to follow them for all the years to come.
Gino took part in the most important races of his era, from the “Mille Miglia” to the “Targa Florio” in Italy, up to “Sebring” and “Le Mans”, as an official driver first for Lancia and then for Maserati. It was precisely at Le Mans that fate touched him and spared him, not involving him in the tragedy of 1955, the worst accident in the history of car racing, the same fate that a little later would await Piero at a curve in the Dolomites, stopping forever his promising career and young life.
Giorgio Tessore, Gino Valenzano’s son-in-law and custodian of family memories, and Antonello De Marco, automotive journalist, have collected in this book data, testimonies and images that illustrate the life and career of the two Turin drivers.
The book includes 12 QR-codes to view the original videos of the races of the time.
