Hearses are first and foremost extensively converted production vehicles, and there are hardly ever two vehicles that match exactly, even down to the smallest detail. Each car was and is handcrafted according to the wishes of the respective undertaker, halfway between a passenger car and a commercial vehicle. Coachbuilders such as Binz, Mies, Pollmann, Stolle, Rappold, Welsch or Thiele, to name just a few, have created and continue to create hearses on the basis of commercially available vehicles, for example Opel, Mercedes and Ford, or particularly unusual vehicles, as this volume shows.
