Beppe Gualini, a physical education teacher from Bergamo with a restless soul, abandoned his job early to dedicate himself to African rallies, which were unknown at the time. He was a trailblazer with his participation in the first edition of the Pharaohs Rally in Egypt in 1982; considered as crazy when he started, he came home with a class victory, the first by an Italian rider in African rallies, a specialty destined in the space of just a few years to become the biggest media event worldwide with the legendary Paris-Dakar.
Fuoritraccia is only a small part of Beppe Gualini’s experience, with unpublished images from his precious photographic archive, thus becoming a historical record of the sport. The contribution of Gigi Soldano, a world-renowned professional photographer, who started this activity with him, sharing and immortalizing a series of unforgettable adventures, was indispensable and precious. Beppe Gualini represents everything that all motorcyclists would like to be, a privateer rider without major financial resources who manages himself in a totally autonomous way but who is able to achieve outstanding results, thus becoming a benchmark for all motorsport enthusiasts.
But his experience also extended to four wheels as he won the selections for the legendary Camel Trophy and represented Italy in the expedition to Borneo in 1985. From here another important phase of his brilliant career began, when he was put in charge of the national and international selections and was subsequently included in a selected team of “scouts” for the organization of the Camel Trophy, going on to experience thousands of adventures in the wildest places on the planet.
