Product description

1968. This year is very significant in the history of Porsche: with the 917, the House launched a challenge, without exclusion of shots, to the achievement of its residual goals.

However, 1968 was not only characterized by the 917. The official and private teams participated with the 911 in rallies, time trials and road races, and did the same with the 907s from a year before, the 910 from two years before and the brand new 908s.

The management of the company under the founder Ferry Porsche and the sports activities under the nephew Ferdinand Piëch have not always been in perfect harmony, nor has the nephew always been fully available to his uncle. And this is an important part of the story told by Against All The Others: sometimes these “others” occupied the office next door.

Porsche’s Racing History is a multi-volume series that begins, towards the middle of the story, in 1968. Subsequent volumes in the series will lead readers through trials and triumphs until the end of 1974.

A leap back 100 years, to 1875, for the birth of the founder of the Ferdinand Porsche dynasty. At the age of 24, in 1899, Ferdinand raced the first car he built, a battery-powered Lohner. Several volumes retrace history from electric cars to internal combustion ones, highlighting the dynamics that influenced Ferdinand’s activities and that then influenced the thinking of his son Ferry.

When the series resumes with 1975, the remaining volumes take the reader to 1999. This is the story of the first hundred years of Porsche racing, when cars evolved from wooden frames to carbon fiber, unpainted canvas bodies to bold sponsor logos, and drivers from real and rich amateurs to paid professionals.

The series uses about 200 interviews with engineers – such as Ernst Fuhrmann, Helmuth Bott, Helmut Flegl, Peter Falk and Norbert Singer – and pilots – such as Hans Herrmann, Jacky Ickx, Derek Bell, Vic Elford, Walter Rohrl – and dozens of others.

Unpublished photos, never-before-seen factory documents, and specially commissioned circuit maps will illustrate Porsche’s commitment to Against All The Others races.
