Tremayne David

David Tremayne is a freelance motorsport writer who travels the world reporting on the FIA Formula 1 World Championship for his own Grand Prix+ ezine and clients such as The Independent. He is a veteran of more than 525 Grands Prix and several land-speed record attempts, and this is his 50th published book on motorsport.

His award-winning works include Donald Campbell – The Man Behind the Mask and The Lost Generation – The brilliant but tragic lives of rising British F1 stars Roger Williamson, Tony Brise and Tom Pryce. His writing, on both current and historic topics, is notable for its soul and passion, together with deep understanding and an encyclopaedic knowledge of the sport.

His interest in Jim Clark dates back to childhood in 1967 when he first became hooked on Formula 1, and since then he has been researching the Scot, whose talent he revered even in the most formative years of his burgeoning interest.

Earlier that year the death of Donald Campbell on Coniston Water sparked Tremayne’s other passion, for record-breaking on land and water, a subject on which he is a globally recognised authority. In a neat bit of synchronicity, key engineering members of his own Team DUO STAY GOLD UK land-speed project are the men who have painstakingly recovered and rebuilt Campbell’s Bluebird K7 hydroplane. In 2017 David walked away with just a scraped knuckle from a 250mph accident in his jet-powered dragster after hitting a peak speed of 297mph at Elvington airfield in Yorkshire, vowing to try again.
